3DEXPERIENCE SolidWorks Offers

By now, you have most likely heard some talk about 3DEXPERIENCE if you are a user of Dassault Systèmes software. You may have just heard the 3DEXPERIENCE name, read about the platform and all the applications being incorporated or maybe you have looked into exactly how the collaboration aspect will work. If you haven’t heard about 3DEXPERIENCE, visit our introduction blog to the platform! If you’re a SolidWorks user, one question that may come to mind is what are the 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS offers? 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS was officially released on July 7th, 2020 so it is important to understand how this impacts SolidWorks users going forward. This is going to change the way businesses collaborate and allow users to bring engineering on the platform along with all the other tools already incorporated into the cloud-based platform. I have good news: this blog will highlight these offers and let you know what all is included depending on the level of experience chosen. Hopefully, this will help you understand the differences between the desktop version of SolidWorks and the new 3DEXEPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS cloud-based solution.

Experiences

What exactly are experiences when it comes to 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS? The best way to understand these offerings for those who may not understand is to think of them as a tiered system. As you get into the higher tiers, the more options and included items increased. These experiences are still labeled in their familiar format of Standard, Professional, and Premium, but through the 3DEXPERIENCE, you get more! Figure 1 below shows what is offered at each experience level. There is a lot here, but let’s break down what each of these items are.

3D Creator: creating and collaborating on 3D designs on the cloud

3D Sculptor: creating organic shapes and complex surfaces.

For each of the offers, the SolidWorks portion is the same tool that you currently use from standard up to premium. The Collaborative Industry Innovator role brings the managing and collaborating of any kind of content to the cloud-based 3DExperience platform. The Collaborative Business Innovator role allows for the creation of dashboards and social communities, the ability to share data securely, and connects several people and information together in one place. The last, which is only offered under the Premium option, is the 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS Simulation Designer. This offers powerful simulations to be created, evaluated, and updated all on the 3DEXPEREINCE platform.

With all of these different experiences, you get the same, great version of SolidWorks you would normally get. The biggest advantages here are seamless data management and sharing and collaboration between all departments in an organization. The cloud-based 3DEXPERIENCE platform brings all of the disconnected tools an organization uses into one secured and connected platform.

SolidWorks on the Platform

Does this mean that SolidWorks is going to be moving to be exclusively cloud-based? The answer to that is no. SolidWorks will remain as a separate app away from the platform, for now, but one click on the app in the platform will install all SolidWorks information required locally to your hard drive and will connect you directly to the platform. All in all, what this means is there are no more licensing issues, no major upgades required, minimized IT admin and an improved ability for teams to collaborate and share data securely. As for the cloud-based modeling that many people are looking forward to, Dassault Systems has included 3D Creator with each experience offer. 3D Creator, which includes xDesign, has many of the familiar tools that are used in SolidWorks but have adjusted them to work more smoothly through the cloud. With the ability to design complex components, assemblies, and review 3D models all at your fingertips, 3D Creator is a tool worth investing in as you select your experience offer. Best of all, you can open designs from this cloud-based software directly in SolidWorks.

Conclusion

3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS is a game-changer when it comes to connecting all of your apps and workflows into one centralized location. The ability to have your models within SolidWorks be immediately transferred through the cloud and to other aspects of your team will ultimately save time and money.
